SS-31 | Mitochondrial Research Peptide

Exploring the Science of Mitochondrial Function

SS-31, also known as elamipretide, is a mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide that interacts with cardiolipin, a phospholipid located within the inner mitochondrial membrane. Research has focused on its potential role in mitochondrial structure, bioenergetics, oxidative stress, and cellular energy production.

SS-31 has been investigated in clinical and preclinical studies involving mitochondrial disorders, cardiovascular biology, aging-related mitochondrial function, and neurological research. Results have varied by condition and study, highlighting the need for continued research into its potential applications and long-term effects.

Notably, elamipretide received FDA accelerated approval in September 2025 under the brand Forzinity for improving muscle strength in certain adults and children with Barth syndrome. This approval is specific to that indication and does not establish SS-31 as a general wellness or performance product.
